Strictly speaking, Terry is correct in saying &quot;It was just Dave and I.&quot; However, very few people would say that in colloquial English. Most of us, even natural born pedants like me, say &quot;It&#039;s me&quot; in answer to the question &quot;Who&#039;s there?&quot; This seems to be the English equivalent of the French &quot;c&#039;est moi&quot;. 

However correct it may be to say &quot;It is I,&quot; it just sounds pompous.</description>
